EFFECTIVE WORM CONTROL and other parasites

Heartworm

Proximity is also no problem for Worms. They don't care about borders, suburbs and councils or countries and can be found anywhere, even Golden Grove.

Worming your pet is essential. Worms are anywhere that you find pets and regular worming is the key.

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING: THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO MAKE SURE YOUR PET IS PROTECTED

  1. ONCE A MONTH: If you are using a monthly product to prevent fleas, worms and Heartworm you should give your pet and “all wormer” every 3-4 months as well. (If you have small children: once a month).
  1. YEARLY INJECTION: If you are using the yearly Heartworm injection know that this will prevent Heartworm ONLY. In this case use an “all wormer” every 3-4 months as well AND a product that prevents fleas (and ticks).

WORMING FAQ's

Why should I worm my pet?

Intestinal Worms can be found in all corners of the world and are present wherever you find animals. Intestinal worms such as whipworms can produce up to 20,000 eggs per day. These are shed in the feces when your pet toilets. Worm eggs are very tough and can persist in the environment long after the rain washes away all traces of fecal matter (poo). Tapeworms are transmitted by fleas. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes. So even if you keep your animal indoors it is still possible for them to become infected.

Which product is best?

There are many products available and all of them will do the job. The important thing is to read the label and make sure that you have protection for the most common parasites listed below.

  • Heartworm
  • Tapeworm
  • Other intestinal worms / roundworms
  • Fleas and ticks

How often? When?

  1. Adult animals over one year: Tapeworm and other Intestinal worms
    1. Puppies FROM 6 TO 12 WEEKS OF AGE – Puppy all wormer only every 2 weeks until 12 weeks old.
    2. FROM 12 WEEKS OF AGE and Adults- EVERY 3-4 MONTHS. IF YOU HAVE SMALL CHILDREN EVERY MONTH. You should use an “all wormer” for this. There are many brands out there so when buying ask for an “all wormer TABLET”. Once you give a worm tablet it will work for 24 hours to kill all the worms. A worm tablet will not protect against worms and stop working after 24 hours or so.
  2. Heartworm and intestinal worms except tapeworm
    1. Heart Worm control begins at 12 weeks of age. Don’t start sooner.
    2. there are many products available and all are effective. These products are applied (spot on)/given (chewable) ONCE A MONTH. What you need to know about these products is that they DO NOT COVER TAPEWORM.
  3. Heartworm only there are yearly injections available which will protect your dog against heartworm only.

You might be scratching your head after reading the above! Because there is no product that will kill ALL worms it can get confusing.

Confused about heartworm and Tapeworm

If you get a product that kills Heartworm for example, you will leave out tapeworm. If you use an “All wormer” tablet then you will leave out heartworm.

How much do I give? WEIGH BEFORE YOU BUY!!

Dosing is dependent on your pets bodyweight. First weigh your animal then read the label to see which size tablet, chewable or backliner to buy.

Rule of thumb: Don’t under dose as this will not kill all of the worms. Get the correct weight and use the dosing chart provided with the product of your choice.
